Zsolt Gyarmati: Stereoid, Tamás Dobos: Masked

16. July - 4 September 2010
Gyarmati Zsolt, Dobos Tamas

Zsolt Gyarmati’s art could be approached though the term ‘urban art’ if it was any case of an ex-street artist who have had reconciled with the art business. Gyarmati, as an artist, though having formal paralels with the visuality of the street, have always intended to communicate through ‘traditional’ works of art. His message is not considerably his own device; he rather tends to stay open for what the world could mean to him and transform it into artworks. The main inspiring source for him is not only the visual but the overall agression that stimulates without reason, and from which you cannot hide, that is the meaning of Stereoid.

Tamás Dobos has been widely known for his work as a director of photography in several award-winning projects. This is his first solo show as an exhibiting artist in Hungary, marking a turning point in his career; laying out his criticism on commercial photography. Knowing precisely the mechanisms from the inside that embody this industry, he twists identity production in a way that it is dispoiled of its original goal: the product. Thus the actors are left to work with their own realities which is enhanced by the artists’ instructions, their company giving insight to an other world with its own rules.
